Caroline Cooperatives’ TV and Internet Options

The Co-op has proposals from Bell and Rogers for bulk TV and internet services to begin once the
existing contract with Rogers expires on March 31, 2021.

Purchasing bulk services allows the Co-op to buy TV and internet services at a lower cost than Members
can on their own. With a bulk purchase, the Co-op will pay Rogers or Bell and then charge Members
their portion of the cost as an addition to their housing charge. This has been our current practice.

Right now the housing charge for each unit includes $47 for the Rogers bulk TV services.

The Board has to get the approval of Members to sign a contract with Bell or Rogers. A motion based on
the survey responses will be presented to Members for approval at an upcoming General Members
Meeting.

How this would work
Step 1 Members complete the survey
Step 2 The Board prepares a motion approving the Bell or Rogers service
Step 3 The Members approve the motion at a Members’ meeting
Step 4 The Board signs a contract
Step 5 New services are available in April

Option 1: TV and Internet
The Board will sign a new 5-year contract with Bell or Rogers based on the survey responses.
Things to know about this solution:
• The Bell and Rogers proposal are less expensive than what Members will pay on their own
• Housing charges will change:
- $5 with Bell
+ $5 with Rogers

• This is the best solution for Members who use TV and internet
• Members that only use the internet will pay less than current internet packages offered by Bell,
Rogers and other companies:
o Fibe internet with 1.5 GBPS sells for $130 per month
o Rogers Ignite 1 Gigabit internet sells for $110 per month

Option 2: TV With No Internet
The Board will sign a new 5-year contract with Bell for the Digital VIP Cable TV Package. No internet.
Things to know about this solution:
• This is a continuation of the existing Rogers TV package
• Housing charges will decrease by $17
• This is a great option for Members who want to stay with their own internet service provider
although they will pay more than under option 1
• This is a bad option for Members who do not use their TV service

Option 3: No TV or Internet
The Board will not sign a new contract.
Members will be responsible for paying for their own TV and internet.
Things to know about this solution:
• Housing charges will go down by $47 per month
• The best option for Members who do not use TV or internet
