Welcome to Caroline Co-op, our home
Caroline Co-op is located in the historic and vibrant St Lawrence Neighbourhood area, south of Front street between Sherbourne and Parliament. Built in the 1980s, there are sixty stacked apartments and townhomes on Hahn Place and Longboat Avenue consisting of 18 one-bedroom, 24 two-bedroom and 18 three-bedroom units. There are no wheelchair accessible units; all units have stairs. Limited parking is available at an additional cost.
Buses 121 (Union Station-Esplanade-River-Gerrard), 65 (Parliament), 75 (Sherbourne), 72 (Pape - Cherry Beach-Queens Quay-Union Station) and the King (504) streetcar service the neighbourhood giving direct access to the King, Sherbourne, Castle Frank and Union subway stations. You can also choose to walk along the bustling city streets, bike on the Martin Goodman Trail, or drive. Easy access is provided to the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway.
Our members, both families and singles from a wide range of social, cultural and economic backgrounds, enjoy an environment that encourages respect for one another and participation in the co-op life. Like all Co-ops, there is no landlord; the people (members) who live here run the Co-op through a democratically elected volunteer Board of Directors, committees and membership meetings. Since members are responsible for the running of the Co-op, all members are required to volunteer a few hours each month. This may take the form of sitting on the Board, participating in a Committee, or volunteering during events and activities. All members are obligated to attend regular Member's meetings, held at least twice a year.
Advantages of Co-op living:
- Housing charges tend to be below market rates
- Long-term residence
- A strong sense of community and security
- Well-maintained units by members

What is co-operative housing?
Housing co-operatives provide not-for-profit housing for their members. The members do not own equity in their housing. If they move, their home is returned to the co-op to be offered to another individual or family who needs an affordable home. Because co-ops charge their members only enough to cover costs, repairs, and reserves, they can offer housing that is much more affordable than average private sector rental costs. Co-op housing also offers security. Co-ops are controlled by their members who have a vote in decisions about their housing. There is no outside landlord.
